Queen’s Staircase + Fort Fincastle — probably the strongest historic sightseeing stop for a first-time visitor. The Queen’s Staircase was carved from limestone in the late 18th century and connects naturally with nearby Fort Fincastle and the historic downtown area.
Downtown Nassau, Bay Street & Straw Market — best for combining shopping, architecture, Parliament Square, local vendors and an easy walk through the historic commercial heart of Nassau. The Straw Market is also one of Nassau’s best-known places for Bahamian straw goods and souvenirs.
Arawak Cay / The Fish Fry — one of the best stops for guests who want an authentic taste of Nassau rather than another resort restaurant. It is particularly associated with Bahamian seafood, conch and local food culture.
Clifton Heritage National Park — my pick for visitors wanting something more immersive. The 208-acre park combines Bahamian history, Lucayan, African and Loyalist heritage, historic ruins, nature trails, beaches and snorkeling, including the Ocean Atlas underwater sculpture.
Ardastra Gardens & Wildlife Conservation Centre — particularly attractive for families and guests interested in Bahamian wildlife; its famous marching flamingos are a signature Nassau experience.
